Visualize Your Time to Make the Most of It

Because time isn’t tangible, it’s easy to waste it. We don’t feel it jingling in our pockets like change, and we don’t swipe it when we want to spend it, like a credit card. It simply slips away, unnoticed.

One of the best ways to make the most of your time is to visualize it in concrete ways. When you picture your time as something tangible, you are more away of how you use it.

If you practice time blocking, you may want to visualize your time using toy blocks like these (which you may already have around the house if you have a toddler or young child).

When you start your day, take a look at your time blocking schedule and create a version of that day’s schedule using blocks. You can even color-code, matching the blocks with your time blocking schedule according to block color, if you really want to get into it. As you work through your day and the tasks on your schedule, take away blocks as you go. The visual depiction of your time being used will help you be aware that time is, indeed, a non-renewable resource that we must make the most of.
