How can John Wooden’s success on the basketball court translate to your success in your business?

John Wooden is unquestionably the most successful college basketball coach in history.Ten national championships in a twelve year span with one stretch of 88 straight victories is a record no one has come close to matching.

As awesome as his basketball success was, his legacy will be the leadership and life values he stressed in winning games and living a great life off the court. He retired from coaching in 1975 and he was just as relevant up to his death several weeks ago at age 99. He was still giving interviews, talking about success in life.

I followed his exploits as a coach during those winning years – not always as a fan because he was beating some of my favorite teams such as Kentucky and Duke. I followed him because he was successful. I thought I could use his wisdom and teachings as I was pursuing success in my career. I continued to listen and learn from his teachings until his death.

There are several principles that I gleaned from his teachings that have guided me that I will look forward to sharing with you over the next several weeks. Please check in and let me know if you agree.

Competitive greatness is a love for the hard battle, knowing it offers the opportunity to be at your best when your best is required.
